PM urges Japan to recruit more Bangladeshi workers

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has called on Japan to expand the recruitment of skilled Bangladeshi professionals and strengthen cooperation in human resource development, skills training, investment, and infrastructure.
The appeal came during a courtesy meeting with Japanese Prime Minister's Special Advisor Uno Yoshimasa at the Prime Minister's Office in the Bangladesh Secretariat on Monday afternoon, according to Deputy Press Secretary Shahadat Hossain Shadhin.
During the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepening the Bangladesh-Japan strategic partnership and enhancing bilateral ties through broader economic and development cooperation.
Prime Minister Rahman urged Japan to create more employment opportunities for skilled Bangladeshi healthcare professionals, agricultural workers, and drivers, particularly those with proficiency in the Japanese language. He emphasized that stronger collaboration in skills development would benefit both countries by addressing Japan's workforce needs while creating quality employment opportunities for Bangladeshis.
The Prime Minister also encouraged Japanese businesses to increase their investments in Bangladesh. He said the government would provide full support if Japan expressed interest in establishing another industrial park similar to the Japanese Economic Zone in Araihazar, Narayanganj.
Highlighting the importance of stronger economic relations, Rahman stressed the need for joint initiatives to expand bilateral trade and investment between the two nations.
The discussions also covered key infrastructure projects, including the planned inauguration of the Third Terminal at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on December 16, ongoing Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) projects, and other areas of infrastructure cooperation.
The meeting was attended by Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman, Prime Minister's Adviser on Finance and Planning Dr. Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam, and the Prime Minister's Special Assistant on Overseas Employment for the Asia-Pacific Region Dr. Md. Shakirul Islam Khan.
Representing Japan were Assistant Vice Minister Nakayama Rieko of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, officials from the Japan Civil Aviation Bureau, and Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh Saida Shinichi.
