Dhaka: Twelve BNP leaders recently appointed on contractual terms to various government agencies, departments, and state-owned corporations paid tribute at the graves of BNP founder and former President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital on Saturday.

After laying floral wreaths, the leaders offered special prayers seeking eternal peace for the departed leaders.

The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister's Adviser and BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi as the chief guest.

Among those present were Salah Uddin Sarkar, Acting Director General of the Bangladesh Workers' Welfare Foundation; Mohammad Rashedul Haque, Managing Director-designate of Bangladesh Overseas Employment and Services Limited (BOESL); ATM Abdul Bari Danny, Chairman-designate of the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC); and Md. Kamruzzaman Dulal, Executive Secretary-designate of the Bangladesh National Social Welfare Council.

Others attending included Abdul Khaleq, Chairman-designate of Bangladesh Steel and Engineering Corporation; Shamsuzzaman Suruj, Chairman-designate of Bangladesh Sugar and Food Industries Corporation; Kazi Rownakul Islam Tipu, Managing Director-designate of the Bangladesh Climate Change Trust; Zakir Hossain Siddiqui, Chairman-designate of the Bangladesh Handloom Board; Benzir Ahmed, Chairman-designate of the Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC); and Mamun Hasan, Chairman-designate of Bangladesh Jute Corporation.

According to twelve separate notifications issued on Thursday by the Contract and Foreign Appointment Branch of the Ministry of Public Administration, the appointments are effective for one year from the date of joining.

The notifications also stipulate that the appointees must resign from any other profession, business, or affiliation with government, semi-government, private institutions, or organizations before assuming their respective responsibilities.
