BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman visited the Banani Military Graveyard on Saturday, December 27, 2025, to offer fateha (Islamic prayer for the deceased) and pay tribute to the army officers killed in the 2009 Pilkhana tragedy.

The Pilkhana incident, one of the deadliest security force mutinies in Bangladesh, saw several hundred mutineers of the then Bangladesh Rifles (now Border Guard Bangladesh) revolt against command, resulting in the deaths of 74 people, including 57 army officers. During his visit, Tarique joined in munajat (supplication) seeking salvation for the departed souls of the slain officers.

Prior to this, he made a separate visit to the grave of his younger brother, Arafat Rahman Koko, offering fateha and munajat there as well. This was the first time he had paid respects at his brother’s grave since returning to Bangladesh after nearly 17 years in exile in London.

Earlier in the week, Tarique had already offered prayers at the grave of his father and BNP founder, late President Ziaur Rahman, paying homage and participating in munajat for his father’s soul and for national welfare. Tarique’s series of visits to significant gravesites comes in the days following his return to the country, which has drawn widespread attention from party members and supporter
