On Sunday evening, March 29, 2026, actor Rahul Arunoday Bandopadhyay tragically passed away while shooting on the shores of Digha's Talsari Beach.

His death has raised several questions, including how the accident occurred, whether it happened during the shoot or after, and whether there were any lapses in the safety measures. The police are investigating these aspects.

The incident occurred late in the evening, and Rahul's body was taken to the Tamluk Medical College Hospital, where an autopsy was scheduled for Monday.

The cause of death will be clarified once the report is received. Authorities are currently piecing together the full account of the event from video footage, eyewitness testimony, and statements from those involved.

Details from the Scene and Witness Accounts:

Police sources have confirmed that they have obtained video footage from the accident. Multiple cameras were set up at the shooting location on the beach, and the footage is currently being analyzed.

Preliminary information suggests that the scene being filmed was for the television series Bhole Baba Par Karega, where Rahul and co-actor Shweta were performing a dance scene standing in ankle-deep water.

According to the footage and witness accounts, both actors were slowly moving toward the sea during the shoot. After a short distance, Shweta lost her balance and fell. In an attempt to save her, Rahul is believed to have also fallen.

At that time, the tide was rising, and the water's current pushed Rahul further out to sea. While Shweta was rescued by the crew, Rahul was not immediately found. After a two-hour search, technicians eventually located him.

Director's Statement:

Director Shubhashis Mondal shared that the shooting had started around 5 PM, with the scene being filmed in shallow water by the sea. According to his account, Rahul unexpectedly began to move beyond the designated boundary toward the sea. Despite repeated requests from the crew to stop, Rahul continued.

At one point, he reached waist-deep water. The director mentioned that Rahul was still holding Shweta's hand when he lost his balance. Realizing the danger, some crew members and nearby boatmen rushed to assist, but Rahul was swept away by a wave and began to drown, swallowing some water. Although he was quickly pulled out, the situation deteriorated rapidly.

A Wave's Impact:

Shantanu Nandi, the executive producer of the show, told Indian media that the shooting was almost over, with only a drone shot left, which was also supposed to be filmed in ankle-deep water. He confirmed that Rahul moved a little further into the sea, and despite warnings from the crew, he continued.

A wave reportedly caused him to slip, and within five to seven minutes, the incident unfolded. The crew and nearby boatmen rushed into the water to try to save him. After being rescued, Rahul was immediately taken to the Digha Government Hospital. Initial reports indicated that he was conscious when placed into the vehicle, but he was declared dead upon arrival.

Further Investigation:

There have been claims from some sources that Rahul fell into the water while trying to save Shweta, though this has not yet been officially confirmed.

The Digha police have filed an unusual death case, and the Odisha police have also joined the investigation. Authorities are looking into whether proper safety measures were in place during the shoot, and whether the necessary permits for shooting in that area had been obtained.

Postmortem Findings:

Sources at Tamlipt Medical College and Hospital revealed that the preliminary postmortem report provided important insights. The actor had been in the sea for more than an hour, causing sand and saltwater to enter his lungs and esophagus.

The accumulation of sand and saltwater in his lungs caused them to expand to nearly twice their normal size. Doctors believe that his prolonged submersion in water led to these complications, contributing to his death.
