Legendary singer Asha Bhosle passes away at 92

Legendary Indian playback singer Asha Bhosle passed away at a hospital in Mumbai on Sunday while undergoing treatment. She was 92 years old.
According to the Press Trust of India (PTI), she was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital on Saturday evening due to a chest infection and physical weakness, her granddaughter Zanai Bhosle confirmed.
Asha Bhosle is widely regarded as one of the most influential and versatile singers in Hindi film music. During a career spanning more than eight decades, she recorded thousands of songs across multiple genres and languages.
For her outstanding contribution to music, she received two National Film Awards, 18 Maharashtra State Film Awards, four Bengal Film Journalists’ Association Awards, and nine Filmfare Awards, including a lifetime achievement honour. She was also nominated twice for the Grammy Awards.
In 2000, she received India’s highest award in cinema, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. She was later honoured with the Padma Vibhushan in 2008, Banga Bibhushan in 2018, and Maharashtra Bhushan in 2021.
Born on September 8, 1935, in Sangli, Maharashtra, Asha Bhosle received her early musical training from her father. Among her siblings, Usha and Asha became playback singers, while Meena worked as a composer. Her brother also built a distinguished career in music.
