Actress Pori Moni was unable to appear before a Dhaka court due to leg pain, leading to another postponement of the hearing on charge framing in a drug case. The court has fixed November 17 for the next hearing.

On Tuesday (September 29), Judge Robiul Alam of Dhaka Special Judge Court-10 passed the order. Pori Moni’s lawyer, Nilanjana Rifat (Suravi), submitted a petition seeking additional time, citing her client’s physical condition.

According to the petition, Pori Moni had suffered a leg injury some time ago. Her pain has reportedly worsened recently, making it difficult for her to move around and attend court.

The prosecution, however, opposed the request. State prosecutor Mohammad Moazzem Hossain argued that the case has remained at the charge-framing stage for a long time and alleged that Pori Moni had repeatedly sought time after failing to appear in court. He also requested that her bail be cancelled and that the court proceed with charge framing.

After considering the application, the court fixed November 17 as the next date for the hearing.

Background of the Case
On August 4, 2021, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) detained Pori Moni from her residence in Banani. The law enforcement agency said LSD, ice and various types of alcohol were recovered from her home during the operation.

The following day, August 5, RAB filed a case under the Narcotics Control Act against Pori Moni and two others at Banani Police Station.

Following the investigation, CID Inspector Kazi Mostafa Kamal submitted a charge sheet against the three accused before the court on October 4, 2021.

Later, on January 5 this year, the court rejected the accused persons’ discharge petitions and ordered the trial to begin through charge framing.

The charge sheet states that no valid documents were found for the narcotics allegedly seized from Pori Moni’s residence. However, according to information from the Department of Narcotics Control, a licence for consuming alcoholic beverages had been issued in her name for the 2019-20 fiscal year.
