Known for her work in modelling and acting, Tashdik Nomira Ahmed is also recognised as a dancer. Now, she is taking a new step towards fulfilling a long-cherished dream by launching Ghungru Dance Academy by Nomira in Dhanmondi, Dhaka. The academy will offer professional dance training for children, teenagers and people of all ages who are interested in learning dance.
Nomira began her journey in showbiz in 2011 through the Veet–Channel i Top Model competition. Competing against thousands of participants, she secured the second runner-up position in the grand finale. She subsequently established herself through regular work in modelling and acting while also gaining recognition as a dancer.
Her passion for dance led her to enrol at Bulbul Lalitakala Academy. From 2013 to 2018, she also served as a dance instructor at Bafa.
Drawing on her experience and skills, Nomira is now establishing an independent institution dedicated to dance education. Classes at Ghungru Dance Academy by Nomira are scheduled to begin next month, with training sessions held every Friday and Saturday. Registration for admission is already underway. The academy will also organise various events alongside its regular classes.
Speaking about the initiative, Tashdik Nomira Ahmed said, “It has been a long-standing dream of mine to establish my own institution. Finally, that dream is becoming a reality. The academy will not be limited to classical dance. Students will also have the opportunity to learn modern, folk, fusion and other forms of dance.”
Nomira believes that although many people are interested in dance, they lack access to formal education and training. Reflecting on the changing culture of extracurricular activities, she said children and young people once regularly attended dance, music and art classes on holidays, but such practices have declined over time. This inspired her to take the initiative to promote dance education.
Explaining the academy’s programmes, Nomira said students will have opportunities to study dance alongside practical training. Examinations will be held at the end of courses, and successful participants will receive certificates. The academy will welcome learners of all ages, from children and teenagers to adults.
Nomira hopes the academy will encourage greater interest in dance and help nurture the talents of the next generation.
