Bollywood actress Janhvi Kapoor, who gained attention for starring opposite Jr NTR in ‘Devara’, has spoken out against the misuse of artificial intelligence after an objectionable AI-generated video using footage from the film’s popular song ‘Chuttamalle’ circulated on social media.
In a detailed statement posted on Instagram, Janhvi said that creating and distributing manipulated or objectionable content involving women without their consent is not merely a violation of privacy. In her view, it represents another form of sexual abuse. She also said that many women in the entertainment industry have experienced similar situations.
Addressing the issues of consent, personal choice and bodily autonomy, Janhvi stressed that a woman’s decision must be respected every time. She pointed out that even if a woman agrees to something on several occasions, her refusal at a later point must still be respected.
She also argued that a woman’s clothing or personal choices should never be interpreted as permission to photograph or portray her body in an inappropriate or degrading manner.
According to Janhvi, decisions about personal boundaries, comfort and one’s own body belong entirely to the individual. She described the recent AI-generated video incident as part of a wider problem affecting women both online and offline.
The actress said threats and harassment against women are increasingly appearing in digital spaces, while concerns about women’s physical safety remain a serious issue in the real world as well.
Janhvi called for a change in social attitudes, particularly among men, saying that protecting women alone is not enough. She stressed the importance of challenging the mindset that allows people to believe they have the right to cross another person’s boundaries.
She also thanked Jr NTR and Chiranjeevi for speaking out against the AI-generated video and expressed gratitude to other celebrities who raised their voices on social media.
Concluding her statement, Janhvi emphasized women’s right to be treated with dignity. Her message focused on a woman’s ownership of her own body, images, boundaries and decisions.
