Iran has announced that the Strait of Hormuz is now open to commercial shipping, signaling a possible easing of tensions in one of the world’s most critical energy transit routes. Iranian officials said vessels can resume passage through designated channels under coordinated procedures.

The announcement came amid broader diplomatic efforts to stabilize the region after weeks of conflict and disruptions to global oil flows. The reopening of the waterway helped push oil prices lower, as markets reacted to hopes of improved maritime security and reduced supply risks.

However, US President Donald Trump said the American naval blockade targeting Iran would remain in force until a comprehensive agreement is reached with Tehran. In a public statement, Trump said the Strait of Hormuz is open for general passage, but restrictions related to Iran will continue until negotiations are fully completed.

The Strait of Hormuz is a vital chokepoint for global energy trade, carrying a large share of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas exports. Despite the latest announcement, shipping companies and international observers are expected to remain cautious until clearer security guarantees emerge.
