Iran’s naval forces are prepared to deliver “new bitter defeats” to their enemies, according to Mojtaba Khamenei, son of Iran’s Supreme Leader, as tensions sharply escalate in the Strait of Hormuz amid growing confrontation with the United States and its allies.

In a strongly worded statement, he said Iran is “courageously defending” its sovereignty and warned that the country’s military capabilities, including its naval forces, are fully ready to respond to any external pressure or aggression. He added that Iran’s armed forces, particularly its navy, are capable of imposing high costs on adversaries if tensions continue to rise.

The remarks come at a time of heightened instability in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical maritime chokepoints for global oil shipments. Following recent US-led pressure and naval operations in the region, Iran has tightened its control over the waterway, leading to serious disruptions in commercial shipping.

Several tankers and cargo vessels have recently reported security incidents, including warning shots and forced diversions while transiting the strait. Shipping data indicates that multiple vessels have turned back or changed course after receiving instructions from Iranian forces operating in the area.

The situation escalated further after Iran imposed stricter restrictions on maritime movement through the strait, requiring additional security clearance for passage. This has significantly slowed traffic and raised concerns among global shipping companies and energy markets.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the most strategically important maritime routes in the world, carrying a significant portion of global oil supplies. Any disruption in the area has immediate effects on international energy prices and shipping insurance costs.

The current tensions are part of a broader confrontation between Iran and the United States following recent military and economic pressure measures, including naval deployments and restrictions targeting Iranian maritime activity. The situation has also drawn concern from regional powers and international observers, who warn that continued escalation could lead to wider instability in the Gulf region.

Diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions are ongoing, but no significant breakthrough has been reported so far. Meanwhile, military activity in and around the Strait of Hormuz remains high, with both sides maintaining a strong presence in the area.
