PM Tarique Rahman to Meet Abrar Fahad’s Family Today

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is scheduled to meet the family members of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) student Abrar Fahad on Thursday (October 8).
The meeting is scheduled for 5pm at the Cabinet Division of the Bangladesh Secretariat.
Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal Central President Rakibul Islam Rakib confirmed the meeting. He said the prime minister will hear about the family’s concerns and discuss possible government support in the legal proceedings related to Abrar Fahad’s murder.
Chhatra Dal General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir said this will be Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s first meeting with Abrar’s family since returning to Bangladesh. According to him, the prime minister will listen to the family’s difficulties and other concerns.
He also said the prime minister is expected to stand by the family if they require assistance.
Abrar Fahad, a BUET student, was beaten to death at Sher-e-Bangla Hall in October 2019. A Dhaka court sentenced 20 people to death and five others to life imprisonment in December 2021. The High Court upheld the sentences in March 2025, but the verdict has not yet been fully executed as appeals remain pending before the Appellate Division.
