Education Minister Dr. A N M Ehsanul Haque Milan has announced that SSC candidates who fail two subjects will be given another opportunity to sit for the examinations within 15 days.

He made the announcement on Tuesday, October 13, while responding to journalists after inaugurating an orientation programme for 651 newly appointed officers in the 49th BCS General Education cadre at the Rural Development Academy (RDA) auditorium in Bogura.

The minister said the government would not allow a pattern of repeated failures to continue year after year. He added that the government would not allow repeated examinations or unnecessary delays. Students who cannot progress through general education will be directed towards the technical education system, he said.

Milan also said the government was making every effort to secure a better future for students at risk of dropping out. Necessary measures would be taken to prevent students from falling behind in their studies.

Speaking about moral education, the minister said the country had experienced a decline in moral values and needed to address the situation. Under the direction of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, schools are placing greater emphasis on cultural programmes, sports and moral education from Class Four.

He said these initiatives were intended to help develop a generation with strong moral values. Sports activities have already begun at primary and secondary levels, and the Prime Minister’s Gold Cup is also being organised. The government aims to create a lively school environment by combining academic learning with sports.

The programme was chaired by Dr. Sardar Keramat Ali, acting secretary of the Secondary and Higher Education Division. Speakers included Bogura-6 (Sadar) MP Rezaul Karim Badsha, RDA Director General Abdul Majid and the education minister’s wife, Nazmun Nahar Baby.
