Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has departed for Dhaka after a four-day official visit to Japan. He left Tokyo’s Haneda International Airport on Thursday (October 29) aboard a special VVIP flight operated by Biman Bangladesh Airlines and is expected to arrive at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka later that night.

Strengthening bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Japan and expanding trade and investment were key priorities during the visit. The two countries signed several important memorandums of understanding covering cooperation in multiple sectors.

The agreements focused on areas including agriculture, infrastructure development, cybersecurity, information technology and improving standards in the industrial sector.

During the visit, the prime minister held a busy schedule of engagements with Japan’s top leaders. A key highlight was a high-level bilateral meeting with the Japanese prime minister, where the two sides discussed issues of mutual interest and their strategic partnership.

Tarique Rahman also paid a courtesy call on Japanese Emperor Naruhito. In addition, he attended the Bangladesh Trade and Investment Summit, which brought together Japanese investors and leading business figures, and highlighted opportunities for foreign investment in Bangladesh.

Towards the end of his visit, the prime minister also attended a civic reception organised by expatriate Bangladeshis living in Tokyo. His return marks the conclusion of the scheduled programme of the four-day visit to Japan.
