New details have emerged in the investigation into the death of dismissed Bangladesh Air Force Flight Lieutenant Tahsif Sauri. Police have found that, shortly before his death, Tahsif spent time with a young woman and his junior friend, Ahmed Shahriar Reza Dip, at a restaurant and bar in Uttara. Investigators are trying to identify the woman and speak with her.

Dip has been shown arrested in a murder case filed by Tahsif’s father, KM Enayetul Karim, and placed on a four-day remand for questioning. During interrogation, Dip claimed that Tahsif jumped into the Turag River after being chased by police in the Mazar Basti area of Tongi. However, investigators have yet to establish why he allegedly jumped into the river or what exactly happened at the time.

According to investigation sources, newly obtained CCTV footage shows Tahsif at Nest Restaurant and Bar in Uttara with a young woman and Dip. The footage indicates that they arrived at the establishment in Sector 11 of Uttara at 10:17 p.m. on October 27, travelling on a motorcycle. They reportedly spent around an hour and a half there before Tahsif left for the Mazar Basti area of Tongi with Dip. Investigators are working to establish the woman’s identity.

Naval Police officials said Dip had provided several pieces of information during questioning, but some inconsistencies and disjointed details had emerged. Investigators are cross-checking his statements against other evidence.

Abdullah Al Mamun, Superintendent of Police of the Dhaka Range of Naval Police, said Dip had been present throughout the incident and that questioning him could provide important information about Tahsif’s death. The court has granted permission for a four-day remand.

He added that investigators are tracing Tahsif’s movements after he left home and identifying the people he met. A forensic examination of his mobile phone is also underway. Investigators are looking into the recovery of the motorcycle and other evidence as they seek to determine whether Tahsif actually jumped into the river while fleeing police or whether other circumstances were involved.

Meanwhile, the Retired Armed Forces Officers Welfare Association (RAOWA) has called for the actual cause of Tahsif’s death to be established and those responsible to be brought to justice.
