Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer and Opposition Leader Dr Shafiqur Rahman has alleged that conspirators and self-serving groups are attempting to destroy the garment sector by creating unrest in the industry. He has urged the government to take a firm stance to prevent damage to the sector and take strong action against those involved in such activities.

He made the remarks in a post published on his verified Facebook page on Monday (November 2).

In the post, Dr Shafiqur Rahman said instability in the garment industry was continuing, with disturbing incidents of vandalism and arson reported at various locations and industrial establishments.

He stated that neither factory owners nor workers could establish their rights by destroying industrial facilities. He also expressed his belief that no worker would be involved in such activities.

The Jamaat chief further said that nearly 600 factories had already been declared closed. He raised concerns about whether a deeper conspiracy might be behind attempts to undermine the opportunities that typically emerge in the garment sector ahead of the winter season.

Against this backdrop, Dr Shafiqur Rahman called on factory owners, workers and all other stakeholders to act with sincerity and caution.
