Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Abdul Awal Mintoo has said that Bangladesh’s independence, sovereignty and development remain safest under the leadership of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).

Speaking as the chief guest at a discussion marking the 45th martyrdom anniversary of former President Ziaur Rahman in Daganbhuiyan, Feni, the minister said Ziaur Rahman was not only the proclaimer of independence but also a courageous freedom fighter and a key architect of post-independence Bangladesh.

He noted that under Ziaur Rahman’s leadership, the country witnessed significant political and economic transformation. Referring to his assassination on May 30, 1981, Mintoo described it as a tragic loss for the nation, adding that former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia carried forward his vision and commitment to nation-building.

Addressing the issues of drug abuse and juvenile gangs, Mintoo stressed that parents, teachers, community leaders, political representatives and law enforcement agencies must work together to tackle these challenges.

He called on BNP leaders and activists to play a leading role in maintaining social stability, ensuring public safety, and guiding young people toward constructive and productive paths.

The discussion meeting was chaired by Daganbhuiyan Upazila BNP President, Md. Akbar Hossain was attended by several BNP leaders and local political figures.
