The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has rejected recent media reports regarding the movement of the DMP Commissioner’s convoy, describing the published information as misleading, incomplete, and not reflective of the actual situation.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the DMP responded to reports published under the headline “Traffic laws apply equally to both government and private sectors,” which alleged that traffic restrictions on Minto Road were temporarily removed to facilitate the Commissioner’s passage.

According to the DMP, Minto Road is not a one-way road, as claimed in some reports. The road allows traffic movement in both directions, and an experimental traffic management arrangement involving temporary plastic cones was introduced several months ago to guide northbound vehicles into a U-turn and redirect them southbound.

Police officials said the arrangement is not a permanent traffic restriction or infrastructure measure. Depending on traffic flow, vehicle volume, and operational requirements, the temporary U-turn system is opened and closed multiple times throughout the day as part of routine traffic management.

The statement further noted that the movement of the DMP Commissioner’s convoy was carried out under the supervision and direction of traffic officers in accordance with established traffic management procedures. No traffic law was violated, nor was any special privilege granted.

The DMP argued that some reports created the impression that a route completely closed to the public had been opened exclusively for the Commissioner’s convoy, which it said does not accurately reflect the facts.

Emphasizing the importance of responsible journalism, the police urged media outlets to verify all relevant information thoroughly before publishing reports on such matters, noting that accurate reporting plays a crucial role in shaping public opinion.
