US Holds Prime Minister Tarique Rahman in the ‘Highest Regard’: Foreign Affairs Adviser

Bangladesh's Foreign Affairs Adviser to the Prime Minister, Humayun Kabir, has said that the United States holds Prime Minister Tarique Rahman in the "highest regard," describing it as a reflection of the growing trust and deepening strategic partnership between the two countries.
Speaking to journalists at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday following the visit of US Special Envoy for South and Central Asia Ambassador Sergio Gore, Kabir said Washington's confidence in Bangladesh's leadership was clearly demonstrated during the envoy's meeting with the Prime Minister.

He noted that Ambassador Gore's visit was primarily introductory but provided an important opportunity for both sides to exchange views on a wide range of strategic issues, including trade, investment, technology, economic cooperation, and regional and global affairs.

According to the adviser, the United States sees Bangladesh as one of Asia's emerging technology hubs over the next decade and is interested in strengthening bilateral cooperation to help realize that potential.

Kabir further said that under the administration of US President Donald Trump, Bangladesh is regarded as a highly valued strategic partner within Washington's broader Indo-Pacific engagement.

He added that Bangladesh's international standing has been strengthened by its democratic mandate achieved through national elections. The government is pursuing a "Bangladesh First" foreign policy that places national interests at the center of diplomacy, economic engagement, and security cooperation.

Highlighting Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's leadership, Kabir said Bangladesh's global profile has grown significantly, with stronger ties being maintained with major capitals, including Washington, Beijing, and Riyadh, while preserving a balanced foreign policy.

On Bangladesh-Saudi Arabia relations, the adviser said bilateral cooperation is evolving beyond traditional religious ties into a broader strategic partnership. He noted that Bangladesh would continue supporting Saudi Arabia on regional security issues when necessary, emphasizing that such cooperation is not directed against any specific country.

Responding to a question on Chinese investment, Kabir said Bangladesh welcomes greater investment from China, the United States, and Western countries alike. He stressed that the country's investment landscape should remain a platform for balanced cooperation rather than geopolitical competition.

Regarding former Inspector General of Police Benazir Ahmed, Kabir said the Ministry of Home Affairs has already initiated the necessary process to facilitate his return from the United Arab Emirates, adding that the government will provide updates as the process moves forward.
