Bangladesh Hires Law Firm to Bring Back Former IGP Benazir Ahmed from UAE: Home Minister

The Bangladesh government has appointed an experienced law firm to pursue the legal process for bringing former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed back from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has announced.
The minister made the remarks on Sunday while speaking to reporters after a meeting with police officers and personnel organized by the Rajshahi Range Police and Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) at the Rajshahi Police Lines ground.

He said the government has instructed the appointed law firm to take all necessary legal steps to seek the cancellation of Benazir Ahmed's bail.

"We have already appointed an experienced law firm and directed it to take the required legal measures to revoke the bail. We hope the legal process will pave the way for bringing Benazir Ahmed back to Bangladesh as quickly as possible," the minister said.

According to Salahuddin Ahmed, reports indicate that Benazir Ahmed was granted bail on the condition that he cannot leave the United Arab Emirates. However, the government has applied for a certified copy of the court's order to verify the exact terms and conditions of the bail.

The Home Minister added that the Home Secretary and the Bangladesh Ambassador to the UAE are maintaining constant communication and coordination to advance the legal process.
