Home Minister Urges Police to Uphold Rule of Law, Remain Free from Political Influence

Rajshahi: Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has said the Bangladesh Police must remain free from political influence and serve as a modern, technology-driven, and people-oriented force dedicated to upholding the rule of law.
Speaking as the chief guest at the Graduation Parade 2026 of the first phase of the 27th BCS Police Batch at the Bangladesh Police Academy in Sardah, Rajshahi, on Sunday, the minister stressed that the police are "not the enforcement arm of any political party or group."

Addressing the newly commissioned officers, he urged them to strictly maintain the chain of command while carrying out their duties in the country's evolving environment.

"The police must work with sincerity to establish the rule of law, build a discrimination-free society, and restore public confidence," he said, while directing officers to strictly follow a zero-tolerance policy against corruption.

The minister also emphasized the importance of developing technical expertise in combating cybercrime and strengthening cybersecurity. He encouraged the officers to establish themselves as trusted public servants committed to serving the people with professionalism and integrity.

Salahuddin Ahmed expressed confidence that the new officers would contribute significantly to building a democratic Bangladesh by upholding the values of the Liberation War and honoring the sacrifices made during the 2024 student-led mass uprising.

At the beginning of the ceremony, he paid tribute to the martyrs of both the Liberation War and the 2024 movement before congratulating the officers of the 27th BCS Police Batch, who completed their training after a prolonged delay.

The six-month basic training program, which began on February 1, 2026, concluded with the graduation parade, marking the official entry of 58 trainee Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs) into active service.

Following the parade inspection, the Home Minister presented awards to the top-performing trainees.

Dr. Md. Nurul Huda Bhuiyan, who served as Parade Commander, received both the Best Probationer and Best in Field Activities awards. Abu Numan Mohammad Khairul Islam was recognized as Best Academic Performer, while A.B.M. Mamun received the Best Shooter Award.

After completing the graduation ceremony, the newly commissioned ASPs will be posted to various units of the Bangladesh Police for practical field training.
