A fire and petrol bomb attack were reported at the residence of former Bangladesh national cricket team captain Shakib Al Hasan in Magura on Wednesday night.

According to police, the incident occurred at around 8:45 pm. Magura Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdullah Al Mamun confirmed the incident.

Preliminary information indicates that unidentified miscreants set fire to the house and hurled two petrol bombs, causing damage to several glass windows. Police reached the scene at around 9:30 pm after receiving the information.

Authorities said no family members or occupants were inside the residence at the time of the attack. An investigation has been launched to identify those responsible and determine the motive behind the incident.

Earlier on Wednesday evening, Shakib Al Hasan virtually participated in a press conference alongside Sheikh Hasina at the Foreign Press Club in India.

Shakib Al Hasan is currently facing several legal proceedings in Bangladesh. These include a murder case related to the death of a garment worker during the 2024 anti-discrimination student movement, as well as separate cases involving alleged stock market irregularities, corruption-related allegations, and a cheque dishonour case. These matters remain under judicial process, and no court has reached a final verdict.

Police said legal action is underway regarding the attack, and the investigation is continuing.
