Garment workers took to the streets in Dhaka’s Mirpur area again on Sunday, November 1, demanding a minimum monthly wage of Tk 30,000. Protesters blocked several key roads from the morning, disrupting traffic and causing significant inconvenience to commuters.
According to police and local sources, the protest began around 9:00 a.m. with a road blockade at the Mirpur-10 roundabout. The demonstrators later gathered in Mirpur-11, Mirpur-12 and the Proshika intersection area.
The blockades disrupted traffic across Mirpur-10, Mirpur-11, Mirpur-12 and nearby areas. Office workers, students and other commuters faced difficulties reaching their destinations, while some vehicles were unable to move through the affected roads.
Pallabi Police Station Officer-in-Charge Jalal Uddin said on Sunday morning that garment workers had been occupying roads in several locations to press their demands. Additional police personnel were deployed at the protest sites to maintain order and manage the situation.
The demonstrations caused major traffic disruptions on several important roads in Mirpur, leaving commuters struggling to reach their destinations on time. Authorities were working to keep the situation under control.
