Clashes and repeated chases between garment workers and police erupted in Dhaka’s Mirpur during protests demanding a minimum monthly wage of Tk 30,000. The unrest created a tense situation in the area, prompting the temporary closure of the Mirpur-11 metro station for passenger safety.

Workers from several garment factories began demonstrating on the streets around Mirpur-11 on Tuesday (November 3) morning. Tensions escalated between the protesters and police, leading to clashes and chases between the two sides. The situation disrupted traffic and normal activities in the area.

The workers’ campaign for a minimum monthly wage of Tk 30,000 entered its fourth day on Tuesday. They have repeatedly taken to the streets to press their demand.

Meanwhile, the MRT Police Control Room confirmed on Tuesday morning that operations at the Mirpur-11 metro station had been temporarily suspended amid the clashes.

According to the control room, tensions and confrontations between garment workers and police had developed in the Mirpur-11 Section area since morning. Considering passenger safety and the overall security of the station, authorities decided to suspend its commercial operations temporarily.

No metro trains are currently stopping at the station, and passenger boarding and disembarking have been suspended. However, train services at other metro stations remain normal, the MRT Police Control Room said.

Relevant sources said train stops and passenger services at Mirpur-11 station would resume once the situation returns to normal.
