Salahuddin Ammar, the 17th general secretary (GS) of the Rajshahi University Central Students’ Union (RAKSU), has left his office after completing his term. The office room was subsequently sealed.
He vacated the office on Wednesday night (November 4), following a letter sent by the RAKSU treasurer. Ammar confirmed the development in a Facebook post later that night.
In his post, he addressed the students of Rajshahi University, writing: “Dear Rajabians, you honoured an ordinary person like me by electing me through your votes. I tried to stand beside you by giving my time, effort and abilities. I made many mistakes, and I sincerely apologise to you for them.”
Expressing his gratitude to the students, he added that they had given him a new life and that, without their support, he might have quietly faded into obscurity.
Ammar said the university administration's letter instructed him to hand over the RAKSU keys and furniture on November 4. Describing the end of his tenure as relief from a major responsibility, he said he spent his final hours with the officers and employees who had been part of RAKSU over the past year.
He also said that activities demanding the next RAKSU election and continuing the previous nine-point movement would now be carried forward through the Rajshahi University Reform Movement platform.
Ammar urged students to contact him whenever they face urgent problems. He added that he would try to address students’ financial difficulties through the ‘Novoculture’ platform, Insha’Allah.
