The government is working to increase investment in the education sector with the aim of developing a skilled human capital base, said Education and Primary and Mass Education Minister Dr. A N M Ehsanul Hoque Milon.

He made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a UNICEF-organized event held at Hotel Sheraton in Dhaka on Thursday.

The minister said ensuring adequate investment in education remains one of the government’s top priorities to prepare future generations with the necessary skills.

He also stated that the government plans to allocate 5 percent of the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) to the education sector. “We are ready to increase spending up to 5 percent of GDP to bring a significant transformation and improvement in the education system,” he added.

Dr. Milon further said that investment in education had not previously reached the desired level, and the current focus is on expanding funding to build skilled human resources.

He emphasized the importance of improving both primary education and the skill development of students. He also noted that the government is taking new initiatives to introduce digital classrooms across the country.

The minister added that efforts are underway to expand interactive digital classrooms to modernize and technology-enable the education system.
