Runa Laila Returns to Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Stage After 62 Years

Legendary singer Runa Laila captivated audiences with a memorable solo performance at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, marking her return to the institution's stage after 62 years. The Academy also honored the iconic artist in recognition of her outstanding contribution to music.

The solo concert, titled "Shilpi Ami Tomaderi Gan Shonabo" (I Am an Artist, I Will Sing for You), was organized to raise support for flood-affected and underprivileged people. During the event, Runa Laila performed ten of her most celebrated and timeless songs, earning repeated applause from the audience.

At the age of 74, the legendary vocalist impressed music lovers with her powerful voice, graceful stage presence, and enduring musical excellence. Many in the audience remarked that "there is no comparison to Runa Laila except Runa Laila herself."

Opening the evening with a patriotic song, the South Asian music icon went on to perform a selection of her greatest hits, demonstrating that music is not merely entertainment but also a powerful expression of humanity, cultural values, and patriotism.

The concert marked the first-ever solo musical performance by Runa Laila in the 54-year history of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. According to the artist, it was also her first performance on the Academy's stage in 62 years.

The event was chaired by Rezauddin Stalin, Director General of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. Cultural Affairs Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury attended as the chief guest, while State Minister for Cultural Affairs Ali Newaz Mahmud Khaiyam and Culture Secretary Kaniz Fatema were present as special guests.

Hosted by renowned dramatist Afzal Hossain, the fully packed auditorium echoed with continuous applause after each performance, reflecting the audience's admiration for one of South Asia's most celebrated musical legends.
