American actor RJ Mitte, best known for playing Walter White Jr. in the hit television series Breaking Bad, has died at the age of 34. He died in Brownsville, Texas. The cause of death has not yet been officially determined.
Mitte became widely recognised for portraying Walter White Jr., also known as Flynn, the son of drug kingpin Walter White in Breaking Bad. Living with cerebral palsy himself, the actor drew on his personal experiences to bring authenticity to the character.
His representative, Sean Reilly, expressed grief over his death in a statement to the BBC, describing him as a beloved actor, philanthropist and passionate advocate for disability rights.
The statement said Mitte used his public profile to raise awareness about disability, challenge misconceptions about people with disabilities and promote greater representation in the entertainment industry.
Mitte served as an ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children's. He also established the Mitte Foundation to support charitable initiatives and community programmes.
Investigation Underway Into His Death
The Brownsville Police Department told the BBC that the cause of Mitte’s death had not yet been determined and that an investigation was underway. Police said there was no indication of foul play.
Cameron County Justice of the Peace Cyndi Hinojosa told the Associated Press that Mitte was pronounced dead on October 12. He is believed to have died at his home. An autopsy is expected to help establish the cause of death.
‘Breaking Bad’ Co-Stars Pay Tribute
Mitte’s death prompted tributes from his Breaking Bad co-stars. Aaron Paul told The Hollywood Reporter that he was speechless and deeply heartbroken by the loss. He expressed his love for Mitte and said he would miss his friend dearly.
Dean Norris also paid tribute on social media. He said that although Mitte played his on-screen nephew rather than his son, he had always looked out for the young actor during filming. Norris described Mitte as a young man with an extraordinary heart and said he would be deeply missed.
An Acclaimed Career and a Legacy of Advocacy
Mitte received a Screen Actors Guild Award in 2014 for his work on Breaking Bad. His other television and film credits included Hannah Montana, Switched at Birth and Westhampton.
One of his recent projects was Talking to Strangers, released in 2026. Beyond acting, Mitte was a prominent advocate for disability rights, inclusion and better representation of people with disabilities in the entertainment industry.
