The government has taken an initiative to establish a special court to reduce harassment and suffering faced by Bangladeshi expatriates and protect their human rights. Law Minister Md. Asaduzzaman said preparations were underway to introduce the court.
He made the remarks on Tuesday morning, October 13, at an immigration-focused discussion event in a Dhaka hotel marking the 30th anniversary of the private organisation RMMRU.
The law minister said the proposal for a special court for expatriates was still at the draft stage. However, he expressed hope that the initiative would move towards implementation soon.
At the event, RMMRU adviser and former adviser to the interim government C. R. Abrar said that putting the migration sector in order would make it much easier to bring broader improvements across Bangladesh.
He stressed the need for a long-term plan for the migration sector, along with adequate financial allocations.
