Former Cumilla Upazila Vice-Chairman Hossne Ara Bokul Detained

Police have detained Advocate Hossne Ara Bokul, a three-time former female vice-chairman of the Cumilla Adarsha Sadar Upazila Parishad.
She was detained from the Bagichagaon area of Cumilla city at around 8:30pm on Saturday (September 26). Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kotwali Model Police Station Md Touhidul Anwar confirmed the detention at around 11pm.
According to the police, Bokul allegedly supported attacks on students and members of the public during the anti-discrimination movement in 2024 on behalf of the Awami League, whose activities are currently banned.
Police also alleged that she had recently been involved in efforts to reorganise the Awami League and had been engaged in activities deemed hostile to the government.
OC Touhidul Anwar said further details would be provided later regarding the case or cases under which she may be formally shown arrested.
Bokul is known as an associate of former Cumilla-6 lawmaker A K M Bahauddin. She previously served as the women’s affairs secretary of the Adarsha Sadar Upazila Awami League, whose activities are currently prohibited.
Police said legal proceedings concerning the allegations against her are ongoing.
