Turkey is working with Saudi Arabia and Pakistan under a defense alliance to seek diplomatic solutions to the crisis surrounding the Strait of Hormuz and the situation in Yemen. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan conveyed the message to US President Donald Trump during a phone call on Wednesday, according to Erdoğan’s office.

Erdoğan also told Trump that Ankara was ready to help revive diplomatic efforts between Russia and Ukraine to bring an end to their war.

Parallel diplomatic efforts are also underway through Qatari mediation to end the war and resolve the crisis surrounding the Strait of Hormuz.

An official familiar with the discussions said on Wednesday that Qatari mediators had presented Iran with a new draft agreement on Sunday aimed at ending the war involving the United States and Israel. Tehran is expected to respond to the proposal by the end of the week.

According to the official, the draft currently under consideration by Iran sets a seven-day deadline to address the concerns of Tehran and Washington. It also outlines daily steps that both sides would need to take to build confidence.

The official added that the timeline could come into effect early next week, with several countries expected to serve as guarantors of the agreement.

Qatar and Pakistan are jointly leading mediation efforts to end the war launched by the United States and Israel in February. The conflict has disrupted global shipping and oil supplies and spread to other parts of the Middle East.
