DRU Trains Journalists on AI, Fact-Checking, and Digital Security

Administrator of Dhaka North City Corporation Shafiqul Islam Khan Milton has said that journalists must become skilled in artificial intelligence (AI) and fact-checking to combat misinformation, disinformation, and deepfake content in the digital era.
He made the remarks on Friday while addressing the closing ceremony of a seven-day training workshop titled “AI-Powered Journalism: Opportunities, Risks and Digital Security,” organized by Dhaka Reporters Unity.
A total of 600 members participated in the workshop in different batches at the DRU’s Shafiqul Kabir Auditorium. The programme was supported by XYZ Cloud Bangladesh and Gamplify.
Speaking as the chief guest, Shafiqul Islam Khan Milton said that responsible journalism is essential to ensuring the public receives accurate information in this technology-driven age. He also urged journalists to play a stronger role in preventing misinformation and manipulated content.
DRU President Abu Saleh Akon, who chaired the event, said AI can be used both positively and negatively, and journalists must ensure its ethical and constructive application.
DRU General Secretary Mainul Hasan Sohel said AI is no longer just a technology but an important tool for improving speed, accuracy, and analytical capability in journalism.

DRU’s Information Technology and Training Secretary Mahmud Sohel described the programme as one of the most successful training initiatives in the organization’s history.
In a video message, Moshiur Rahman, Chairman of Gamplify, said trusted journalism has become more important than ever in the era of fake news and manipulated videos.
During the training, participants received hands-on lessons on modern AI tools, including ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Studio, and NotebookLM.
The workshop focused on prompt engineering, data journalism, AI-assisted investigative reporting, digital storytelling, fact-checking, and deepfake detection techniques.
