Deputy Speaker Leads Parliamentary Delegation to 69th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference in South Africa

A five-member parliamentary delegation led by Barrister Kaiser Kamal, Deputy Speaker of the Bangladesh National Parliament, will leave Dhaka tonight to attend the 69th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference (CPC) in Cape Town, South Africa.

The delegation includes Members of Parliament Humam Quader Chowdhury and Ms. Shakila Farjana from BNP, along with Md. Mahbubul Alam MP from Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami. Barrister Md. Golam Sarwar Bhuiyan, Secretary of the Bangladesh Parliament Secretariat, will serve as the secretary to the delegation.

Taking place from September 13 to 19, the conference will bring together parliamentarians and delegates from across Commonwealth nations. This year’s theme is "Strengthening International Law and Parliamentary Democracy in a Changing World Order: Commonwealth Leadership." Participants will engage in discussions, knowledge exchanges, and policy dialogues related to the theme.

On the sidelines of the event, Deputy Speaker Barrister Kaiser Kamal is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan, and Alan Winde, Premier of the Western Cape, South Africa. The delegation will also meet with representative bodies from other participating countries and join a parliamentary workshop focused on consolidating democratic practices.

The Bangladesh delegation is expected to return to Dhaka on September 20 following the conclusion of the summit.
