Sheikh Hasina is the world’s best actress: Hafiz Uddin Ahmed

National Assembly Speaker Major (retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed has described former prime minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina as the “world’s best actress,” alleging that she was involved in enforced disappearances while publicly consoling the families of missing people.

He made the remarks as the chief guest at a view-exchange meeting with BNP and its affiliated organisations at Lalmohan in Bhola at 11am on Saturday (September 12). The meeting was organised by the Lalmohan Upazila Civil Society.

Hafiz alleged that Sheikh Hasina would invite relatives of missing people to Ganabhaban, console them and assure them that their loved ones would be brought back. He claimed that, behind the scenes, she had a “violent attitude” and was involved in the disappearances.

The Speaker further alleged that Sheikh Hasina knew the whereabouts of the missing people. He said testimony and evidence presented by relatives before the International Crimes Tribunal have now made many aspects of the disappearances clear to the public.

Speaking about alleged corruption during the previous government, Hafiz claimed that pillows at the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant project were priced at Tk 60,000 and curtains at Tk 42,000. He also alleged that a former state minister for land owned 360 houses in London.

On local politics, he alleged that the former MP of Lalmohan was a “top terrorist and murderer” and recalled alleged attacks on his supporters during the 2010 by-election, including injuries and vandalism.

At the end of the meeting, Hafiz asked constituents whether they were satisfied with his performance as acting president and Speaker of the National Assembly. A yes-no vote was held, and the meeting ended amid applause after the participants voted “yes.”

The meeting was chaired by Lalmohan Upazila BNP President Zafar Iqbal and moderated by General Secretary Shafiqul Islam Babul. Local BNP and affiliated organisation leaders and activists attended.
