Bangladesh’s Religious Adviser, A F M Khalid Hossain, said on Sunday that recurrent breakdowns in law and order including instances of mob justice and violent incidents, represent an undeniable failure of government responsibility.
Speaking to reporters at the Secretariat, he acknowledged that maintaining stability and public safety is the government’s duty, and repeated deterioration in security indicates shortcomings in fulfilling that duty. He emphasized that the government does want to prevent such incidents and keep the law and order situation under control, but criticized the fact that instability continues to occur.
The Adviser rejected claims that deteriorating law and order situations are being supported by the government. He reiterated that the authorities are committed to preventing unlawful public actions and ensuring security, and that it is inaccurate to suggest such chaos is happening with official support.
In response to a question about recent violent attacks, including an incident involving a major newspaper, he stated that authorities are identifying and apprehending those responsible and that action will be taken under the law.
The comments come amid rising concerns over public safety in the run-up to the 13th National Parliamentary Election, as political tensions and sporadic security breaches have been reported across the country.
