Zubaida Rahman Delivers Speech at Global Summit in Washington, Invited by U.S. First Lady Melania Trump

Zubaida Rahman, the wife of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, is currently on a two-day official visit to Washington, D.C., at the invitation of U.S. First Lady Melania Trump. During her visit, she attended the Global Summit, where she delivered a speech on the welfare and potential development of children. The summit brought together over forty First Ladies and spouses of world leaders from various countries, making it an important platform for high-level dialogue aimed at improving the well-being of children globally.

On Tuesday, March 24, U.S. First Lady Melania Trump officially inaugurated the summit at the U.S. Department of State, delivering an opening address. In her speech, Zubaida Rahman emphasized the importance of ensuring a safe and nurturing environment for children, highlighted the Family Card and Farmer Card programs aimed at improving the lives of Bangladesh’s people, and stressed the need for reforms and prosperity in the education and health sectors. She also called for enhanced global cooperation to build an inclusive, tolerant, and prosperous future.

Accompanying Zubaida Rahman were notable figures, including Dr. Morshed Hasan Khan, Professor of Marketing at Dhaka University, orthopedic surgeon Dr. Shah Muhammad Aman Ullah, and Barrister Mehnaz Mannan.

In addition to the summit, an exhibition was held featuring innovative technologies and applications aimed at improving children's education, presented by eleven leading tech companies from the U.S. Zubaida Rahman and her delegation visited the exhibition, which showcased advancements in educational technologies.

On Wednesday, Zubaida Rahman will participate in the closing session of the conference, which is being held at the White House under the auspices of the U.S. First Lady.

In the opening working session, Zubaida Rahman thanked the U.S. First Lady for bringing together world leaders and partners to commit to the global cause of children's development. She noted that technology, especially educational technology (EdTech), plays a central role in reducing disparities between urban and rural populations. She also emphasized their commitment to ensuring the safe and ethical use of these tools so that children can grow up in a secure and supportive environment.
