On the occasion of the 26th March Independence and National Day, the Convener of the National Citizens' Party (NCP) and the Opposition Chief Whip, Nahid Islam, extended heartfelt greetings and congratulations to all Bangladeshis, both in the country and abroad. In a message given on the 55th anniversary of independence on Wednesday (March 25), he conveyed his wishes and emphasized the significance of the day.

In his message, Nahid Islam described the day as a unique day of glory and dignity in the history of the Bengali people and highlighted the importance of realizing the true spirit of independence. He paid deep homage to all the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the independence of the country, and he also honored the brave women, known as 'Birangona', whose sacrifices and courage have glorified the national history.

He further stated that the independence of 1971 was not just the acquisition of land, but a commitment to building a state based on justice, equality, democracy, and human dignity. However, he expressed concern that even after so many years of independence, these promises remain unfulfilled.

Expressing concerns over the journey of democracy, Nahid Islam said, "Through autocratic and fascist rule, the natural course of democracy has been obstructed. Attempts have been made to weaken the state and make it subservient to foreign powers, but the people of this country have never accepted defeat."

He also mentioned that through the mass uprising of July 24 and August, the nation freed itself from autocracy and restored its democratic rights and national dignity.

Pledging to repay the debt of the martyrs' blood, Nahid Islam committed to building a responsive, just, and inclusive system of governance. He said, "We will continue to move forward in building a modern, prosperous, and humane Bangladesh with an unwavering stance against corruption, injustice, and inequality."

Addressing the new generation, Nahid Islam urged, "You must carry the true aspirations of the liberation war in your hearts and mold yourselves in the ideals of truth, justice, courage, and patriotism. The future prosperous Bangladesh will be built by the hands of the current generation."
