International Crimes Tribunal Chief Prosecutor Md. Aminul Islam has said Bangladesh does not know under what exact status ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is currently staying in India. However, he said she can be brought back to Bangladesh through a legal process.

The chief prosecutor made the remarks while speaking to journalists on Monday (August 17) morning.

On August 5, a Bangladesh Air Force aircraft carrying Sheikh Hasina landed at Hindon Air Force Station in Ghaziabad, near New Delhi. Later that evening, Indian National Security Adviser Ajit Doval received Sheikh Hasina and her sister Sheikh Rehana at the airbase.

The following day, Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar told the Indian Parliament that Sheikh Hasina had sought permission from the Indian government to stay in the country temporarily and that the request was approved before she entered India.

Sheikh Hasina has remained in India since then. However, the Indian government has not yet disclosed her exact immigration status.

According to the ICT chief prosecutor, legal proceedings will be the key avenue for bringing Sheikh Hasina back to Bangladesh.
