Dhaka, August 17, 2026: Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator Md. Shafiqul Islam Khan Milton has stressed the need for coordinated efforts between the public and private sectors to transform the capital into a more modern, clean, green and livable city.

He said the city corporation alone cannot ensure sustainable urban development and that cooperation from the private sector, various institutions and citizens is essential. He also said Anvir Bashundhara Group (ABG) has assured its support for DNCC’s urban development initiatives.

The DNCC administrator made the remarks while speaking to journalists after a courtesy meeting with ABG Chairman Sayem Sobhan Anvir at the DNCC office in Gulshan on Monday (August 17).

The meeting discussed various issues related to urban development, public services and areas of mutual interest.

“Bashundhara is a model residential area. ABG is one of the country’s leading business organisations and an important stakeholder of DNCC. Coordination among all stakeholders is essential for urban development,” Milton said.

He said discussions with the ABG chairman focused on issues concerning the interests of city residents as well as areas of mutual interest.

“We want to develop the city in a better way through the coordinated participation of all important stakeholders. Cooperation from everyone is necessary for urban development,” he said.

The DNCC administrator added that ABG had assured the city corporation of its cooperation in urban development initiatives, while DNCC would extend all possible support from its side in the interest of public services.

Zero Tolerance Against Dengue Breeding
Speaking about the city corporation’s efforts to control dengue, Milton said DNCC had taken preparations in advance and was following a “zero-tolerance” policy against Aedes mosquito larvae.

He said strict monitoring was being conducted across DNCC’s 10 zones through a task force formed to prevent dengue. Regular mobile court operations are also being conducted to prevent the spread of Aedes mosquitoes.

Special drives are being carried out at government offices, courts and other institutions to identify Aedes mosquito breeding sites, he said.

Where mosquito larvae are found, legal action is being taken through mobile courts while the concerned authorities and individuals are also being warned, according to the DNCC administrator.

Emphasising the importance of public awareness in controlling mosquito breeding at residential premises, Milton said, “It is not possible for the city corporation to enter people’s homes and control mosquitoes. Therefore, every citizen must keep their homes and surrounding areas clean.”

He said DNCC had also increased monitoring of government offices and other institutions.

The regular application of mosquito-control chemicals is continuing according to DNCC’s existing plan, he said, adding that mosquito prevalence in the city is currently much more under control compared with previous periods.

However, after the rainy season, DNCC will identify potential mosquito hotspots and conduct special mosquito-control operations in those areas, the administrator added.
