The government has announced plans to establish modern multipurpose examination centres in every upazila to ensure that regular academic activities are not disrupted during public examinations.

Education Adviser A N M Ehsanul Haque Milon made the statement while addressing a meeting with centre secretaries of the Sylhet region ahead of the upcoming SSC and equivalent examinations.

He said the current examination system often leads to a significant loss of valuable academic time for students, which poses a challenge to achieving the country’s demographic dividend. The proposed multipurpose centres aim to address this issue by separating examination arrangements from regular classroom activities.

The adviser also announced that the process to recruit around 60,000 primary school teachers will begin soon. He added that efforts are underway to resolve legal complications surrounding the recruitment of 32,500 headteachers in primary schools.

To address teacher shortages, the government is also planning to create a pool of experienced retired teachers who can be engaged on a part-time basis in institutions facing staffing shortages.

Highlighting broader reforms, he said the government is working towards allocating 5 per cent of GDP to the education sector to ensure quality education. Measures have also been taken to install CCTV cameras in classrooms to monitor teaching standards.

He further warned about the rise of digital cheating methods in examinations and stressed that improving teaching quality is essential to prevent such practices.

The meeting was attended by education officials, board representatives, and local administrators, among others.
