Bangladesh Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan has said that society and the state structure have not yet fully reached the level where creative individuals and artists receive the dignity and respect they truly deserve.

However, he said the newly elected government is committed to ensuring proper recognition and honor for artists.

He made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a program titled “An Evening of Solo Music and Dance,” organized by Artist Club Limited at a hotel in the capital.

The minister said becoming an artist is not merely a matter of decision, but largely a gift bestowed by nature. According to him, those engaged in creative expression and artistic pursuits are true artists.

“Nature determines who has the qualities to become an artist. The rest comes through practice, dedication, and achievement,” he added.

Reaffirming the government’s support for the artistic community, the minister said the government led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman remains highly positive about the promotion of arts and culture. He expressed hope that this goodwill would further strengthen institutions like the Artist Club.

The event featured live musical performances by renowned singer Sujit Mustafa and a dance performance by celebrated dancer Munmun Ahmed, captivating the audience with a blend of music and dance.

At the beginning of the event, the minister was awarded honorary membership of the Artist Club and presented with a symbolic key by the organizers.

The program was presided over by Sujit Mustafa, while the club's General Secretary, Maruf Kabir, delivered the welcome speech. Representatives from various cultural organizations and distinguished guests were also present at the event.
