In an effort to tackle the ongoing fuel crisis, Sri Lanka has announced a reduction in its weekly holiday, limiting it to just three days. The government made this move as part of measures to conserve fuel, ensuring more productive working hours amidst the current shortage.
Starting March 16, 2026, the country will observe a three-day weekend as an attempt to control the rising fuel demand and ensure that resources are efficiently distributed. The government has stressed that this step is part of a series of efforts to mitigate the fuel crisis that has severely impacted daily life in Sri Lanka.
Sri Lankan authorities have stated that while the move may affect the regular work schedule, it is necessary to prioritize energy conservation and avoid the collapse of essential services. The policy is expected to help ease the pressure on the national fuel reserves and stabilize the supply for critical sectors.
