The National Moon Sighting Committee is set to convene on Thursday, March 19, to review information on the sighting of the Shawwal crescent moon and determine the official date of Eid-ul-Fitr, the largest religious festival for Muslims.

According to an official statement issued by the Islamic Foundation on Wednesday, the meeting will be held at 6:00 PM in the conference room of the Islamic Foundation located at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in Dhaka. The meeting will be chaired by Religious Affairs Minister Kazi Shah Mofazzal Hossain Kaykobad.

Authorities have urged citizens across the country to report any confirmed sighting of the Shawwal moon. Individuals who observe the moon are requested to inform the committee through the designated hotline numbers: 02-41053294, 02-226640510, and 02-223383397.

Additionally, people have been advised to notify their respective Deputy Commissioners (DCs) or Upazila Nirbahi Officers (UNOs) to ensure proper verification and documentation of moon sightings.

The final decision regarding the date of Eid-ul-Fitr will be announced following the meeting, based on verified reports of the moon sighting across Bangladesh.
