At least two people were killed, and three others remain missing after being crushed in a launch collision at Sadarghat Launch Terminal in the capital while attempting to travel home for Eid.
The incident occurred at around 5:00 PM on Wednesday, March 18, amid heavy passenger movement at the terminal. According to initial reports, the victims were caught between vessels during intense crowding as passengers rushed to board launches heading to different parts of the country.
Witnesses said the situation quickly turned chaotic when a launch struck passengers near the terminal area, leading to fatalities on the spot and several people falling into the river. Emergency responders and law enforcement agencies immediately launched rescue operations, while efforts are ongoing to locate the missing individuals.
Authorities have stated that overcrowding and a lack of proper crowd management during the Eid travel rush may have contributed to the incident. The identities of the deceased have not yet been officially confirmed.
Further investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the accident, while officials have urged passengers to remain cautious and follow safety guidelines during peak travel periods
