A 21-year-old housewife, Mukta Akter, was killed in a tragic incident in the Uttara area of Dhaka after a snatcher attempted to seize her handbag, causing her to fall from a moving autorickshaw.

The incident occurred around 9:30 a.m. on Thursday beneath the Uttara South Metro Rail Station. Mukta Akter was returning home from a market by autorickshaw when a snatcher suddenly grabbed her vanity bag and pulled it forcefully. The impact of the sudden pull caused her to fall onto the road, leaving her critically injured.

Locals quickly rescued her and took her to Bangladesh Medical College Hospital. As her condition worsened, she was transferred to Ahsanullah Medical College Hospital and later to the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (NITOR), commonly known as the Dhaka Pongu Hospital.

When her physical condition further deteriorated, her husband, Limon Hossain, rushed her to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital at around 1:30 p.m. Despite medical efforts, the attending doctors declared her dead after examination.

The incident has raised concerns over rising snatching incidents in the capital, particularly in busy urban areas like Uttara.
