In the months since his exit from a senior advisory role in the Donald Trump administration, Elon Musk has redefined his public persona, shifting from tech billionaire turned political observer to a central power broker in far-right politics globally.

What once appeared to be a gradual disengagement from direct political involvement has instead morphed into what analysts describe as full-scale alignment with nationalist, anti-immigration, and conspiratorial-style movements.

According to reporting, Musk has become a key funder of prominent far-right activists such as Tommy Robinson in the UK and has openly endorsed the German party Alternative für Deutschland (AfD), enhancing his influence in European politics.

Furthermore, Musk has leveraged his ownership of the social-media platform X (formerly Twitter) and his artificial-intelligence venture xAI to shape information ecosystems that amplify far-right messaging, such as the introduction of a Wikipedia-style alternative dubbed “Grokipedia” that reportedly features right-wing narratives and disinformation.

These moves have widened the rift between Musk and earlier investors and business partners who had hoped he would refocus on innovation and engineering. A recent Yale study estimates that his political positioning may have cost his company, Tesla, Inc.

Nearly one million vehicle sales, as younger consumers and women increasingly chose rival brands, citing the CEO’s divisive statements. Gallup and Quinnipiac polling indicate Musk’s personal approval ratings are now among the lowest of major news-makers, particularly among women and progressive voters.

Despite the backlash, shareholders approved what is reported to be a record-breaking compensation package approaching $1 trillion, signaling strong internal support for Musk’s continued role and strategy.
Critics warn that Musk’s actions are reshaping democratic discourse and civic norms across nations.

His encouragement of violent rhetoric both on and offline has drawn condemnation from government officials, civil society organizations, and anti-hate groups, who say it risks normalizing ethnic and racial incitement while weakening trust in media and institutions.

In response, movements have emerged around the world to challenge Musk’s influence, with protests targeting Tesla showrooms and shareholder activism focused on disentangling politics from his corporate empire.

Musk, however, appears unruffled. Publicly, he has embraced labels of “racist” and “extremist” as meaningless or even badges of honour, declaring his indifference to conventional reputational risk.

With constant reinvention of his public and corporate roles, his current trajectory suggests he intends to remain a leading fixture in international far-right activism, using both his platforms and economic resources to shape the next era of populist, nationalist politics.
