Bangladesh has recorded a strong rise in remittance inflows at the beginning of October, with expatriate Bangladeshis sending $206 million to the country in the first three days of the month. The amount is equivalent to around Tk 25.34 billion.

Bangladesh Bank spokesperson Arif Hossain Khan disclosed the figures on Sunday (October 4). According to the central bank, Bangladesh received only $57 million in remittances during the first three days of October last year. This means the inflow at the beginning of this October is nearly four times higher than the same period a year earlier.

Remittance growth has also remained positive during the current 2026-27 fiscal year. From July 1 to October 3, Bangladesh received a total of $8.798 billion in remittances.

During the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year, the country received $7.643 billion. This represents a 15.10 percent year-on-year increase in remittance inflows during the period.

People familiar with the sector believe that improved opportunities for sending money through formal banking channels and a favourable environment are contributing to the rise in remittance flows.

They expect remittance inflows to remain strong in the coming months if the current trend continues, providing further support to the country’s foreign-exchange earnings.
