National Citizen Party (NCP) chief coordinator Nasiruddin Patwary was allegedly attacked while visiting Lalon Shah’s Akhra in Chheuriya, Kushtia. His party said stones and bricks were thrown at his vehicle and that Patwary and two others were injured in the incident.
The incident reportedly took place on Sunday (October 4) evening when Patwary was visiting the Lalon Akhra in Kumarkhali. According to an NCP statement, he suffered an injury to his hand after bricks and stones were thrown at his vehicle. Party activists and associates later moved him to a safe location.
Police arrived at the scene and brought the situation under control. Authorities have said the circumstances surrounding the incident and the identities of those involved will be investigated.
The NCP also referred to several previous incidents involving Patwary. The party said he was subjected to harassment and egg throwing during an event at Habibullah Bahar College in Dhaka in January.
The party further alleged that Patwary and NCP leader Sarjis Alam came under attack while returning from a political programme in Habiganj in July. According to the NCP, Patwary left the area quickly while Sarjis Alam took shelter inside a bank building for security before police escorted them to safety.
A few days later, the NCP also alleged that Patwary’s vehicle was attacked in Sylhet. The party said images and videos showing broken vehicle windows emerged, although local police denied that an attack had taken place.
Following the Kushtia incident, the NCP called for an impartial investigation, identification of those responsible and legal action against them. The party also urged law enforcement agencies to ensure the security of Patwary and other party members accompanying him.
The NCP said political differences should not be addressed through attacks, intimidation or violence. It called for accountability in each reported incident and effective measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
