Autorickshaw drivers blocked the road in front of the National Press Club in Dhaka on Monday (October 5), protesting the disconnection of electricity used to charge their vehicle batteries.

The drivers took to the road in the morning and staged a demonstration, demanding the restoration of the electricity connection. Their protest disrupted traffic along the Press Club road and affected nearby streets, causing congestion and inconvenience for commuters and pedestrians.

The protesters said they rely on electricity connections to charge their autorickshaw batteries. With the connections disconnected, they are unable to recharge the batteries and operate their vehicles, putting their daily income at risk.

The drivers said they have been earning their livelihoods by operating battery-powered autorickshaws and that the sudden disconnection has created serious difficulties for their work.

They warned that they would consider tougher programmes if the electricity connections are not restored soon.
