Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has described the University of Chittagong as one of the most unique and scenic campuses in Bangladesh, emphasizing the need to fully utilize its vast potential.

He made the remarks after inaugurating the country’s first “Saraswati Gyan Mandir” and the first central temple within a university campus at Chittagong University.

Among those present were State Minister for Land and Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin, Prime Minister’s Special Assistant Bijon Kanti Sarkar, and Principal Secretary ABM Abdus Sattar।

The minister expressed his admiration for the campus, saying he felt immersed in nature and compared it to a hill resort. He urged university authorities to catalogue wildlife and bird species and to preserve and utilize the natural environment for research and development.

He also called on the university to take initiatives to move to the “next level,” stating that it has the potential to achieve high global rankings.

Speaking at the event, State Minister Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin emphasized unity beyond religion and ethnicity, urging collective efforts for development and prosperity.

The program was chaired by Vice-Chancellor Dr. Mohammad Al-Forkan.  Pro-Vice Chancellors Dr. Mohammad Shamim Uddin Khan and Dr. Mohammad Kamal Uddin, along with Adul-Anita Trust Chairman Adul Kanti Chowdhury and Co-Chairman Anita Chowdhury।

Currently, around 3,500 Hindu teachers, students, and staff are associated with the university. The central temple project was initiated in 2011, and its foundation stone was laid in 2019 with funding from the Adul-Anita Trust. The Saraswati Gyan Mandir is considered the first of its kind in Bangladesh.
