Education and Primary Education Minister Dr. A N M Ehsanul Hoque Milon has said that Bangladesh has the full potential to emerge as one of the world’s leading education hubs.
He made the remarks on Tuesday while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion titled “The Role of Private Universities in Higher Education, Future Directions and Joint Action Plan for Achieving National Goals,” held at a hotel in the capital.
The minister stated, “Bangladesh will become one of the best education hubs in the world. We have the resources, talent, plans, and commitment—what we need now is coordinated action.”
He highlighted that initiatives are underway to attract foreign universities and medical colleges to Bangladesh, aiming to elevate the country’s education standards to an international level.
He also emphasized encouraging students who study abroad to return and contribute to national development.
Referring to past contributions, he noted that former President Ziaur Rahman made significant impacts in a short tenure as education minister, while former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia had a long-term vision for education development.
The minister stressed the importance of stakeholder engagement, financial transparency in universities, scholarship expansion, and governance reforms to ensure sustainable progress.
The event was attended by education advisor Mahdi Amin, UGC Chairman Professor Mamun Ahmed, and other key stakeholders.
